Songwriter Night Festival with featured artist, Jason Wilber as a benefit for the Colony Theatre Restoration

Time: Songwriter Contest 10 a.m.; Songwriter Showcase at Noon; Colony Tours at 7 p.m.; Concert at 8 p.m.
Cost: Jason Wilber concert $10, other events free.
Location: Songwriter Contest TBA - Songwriter Showcase at The Galley and Wilber Concert at Mid-Ohio Valley Players Theatre, Marietta, Ohio

    Todd Burge and songwriternight.com are hosting this all day event as a benefit for the Colony Theatre reconstruction. 
    A songwriter contest will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., location TBA. Contestants will perform one song and the winner opens for Jason Wilber. From noon until 5 p.m. local singer/songwriters will showcase their music at The Galley, 203 Second Street, both upstairs and downstairs. The "festival favorite" will be selected by all festival attendees and this songwriter will open for Jason Wilber. Yes, there will be two opening acts performing at the 8 p.m. concert finale featuring Jason Wilber at the Mid Ohio Valley Players Theatre, 229 Putnam Street.     Songwriter workshops are in the planning stage. Some will deal with songwriting; others with the Music Biz. Times and locations TBA.
    Highlights of Jason's work with John Prine include two Grammy nominated albums: Live on Tour and In Spite of Ourselves and the 2006 Grammy Award winning album Fair & Square. Jason's TV and radio appearances include Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Sessions At West 54th Street, Austin City Limits, Live with Regis and Kathy Lee, CNN's Entertainment Week, The Road, Mountain Stage, E-Town, and The Grand Ole Opry.
   
In addition to pleasing audiences in the United States and Europe with the alternately witty and insightful songs featured on his 5 solo CDs, Lost in Your Hometown, Behind the Midway, King for a Day, Live and Otherwise, Volume 1, and Lazy Afternoon, Jason Wilber has played lead guitar for notable folk, rock, and country artists John Prine, Hal Ketchum, Greg Brown, Iris DeMent, Todd Snider, Greg Trooper, Carrie Newcome, and Tim Grimm.
    At 7:00 p.m., prior to the concert, tours of the beautiful old Colony Theatre will be offered plus the chance to listen to a couple of selected songwriters from the Colony stage.
    Day events at The Galley and Colony Tours are free. Evening concert tickets are $10 and can be purchased begining May 19th at all Peoples News locations and at the Colony Theatre Office. For additional information call the Colony office at 740.373.0894.
